The garage studio sells wonderful pieces from artists to fund the creation of Peddars Meadow in Ringstead, Norfolk.
Some years ago the village of Ringstead lost its popular art gallery beside the Gin Trap inn. Now, art is back, not in a historic or purpose built building but in the garage of a home. The Garage Studio is the catalyst for giving nature a helping hand, in a simple but creative way, by selling art to fund the creation of Peddars Meadow.
Until 2018, Hanneke and Derek Robson spent ten years travelling through the depths of rural Britain. During this time they became aware that with increased demands on agriculture, field edging and `set aside land’ was disappearing at an alarming rate and with it, our flora and fauna. They felt an urgent need to act. Shortly after moving to Ringstead, they put their plan into action.
They rented ½ acre of land beside the ancient trail of Peddars Way to de-cultivate and (if necessary), to reseed for our declining pollinators. With the support of likeminded villagers, the Peddars Meadow group was formed, a small group but critical to the success of their plan.
In 2021 they hope to merge their plot with the adjacent re-flowered area to form Peddars Meadow and extend this project throughout the land. To pay for this venture, they converted their garage into a three-roomed gallery and secured the work and the support of some of Norfolk’s most respected artists, including Marie Baird, Nicholas Elliott, Chris Orgill and Vanda Richards. The gallery also sells sculpture, pottery and handmade soaps.
The Garage Studio opened quietly in August 2020. All Covid Rules apply.
Gallery commission goes in full to the creation of Peddars Meadow and the `Acre per Village initiative.’
