A medieval guildhall which hosts a regular programme or local events and concerts.
The Guildhall of St George is Britain’s oldest working theatre and now operates as an arts centre, theatre and creative hub, with a programme of local events, performances and concerts.
In-house volunteers open the guildhall free of charge to visitors throughout the week, from 10am to 4pm. These trained volunteers provide guided tours and historical information as well as outline the vision for future development of this unique building.
The Grade 1 listed St George’s Guildhall is Britain’s oldest working theatre, with performances since 1445. Recent academic research supports local tradition that Shakespeare performed at the Guildhall in 1593 and Shakespeare’s comedian Robert Armin was born in King’s Lynn.
Exciting current plans for St George’s Guildhall set out how the theatre and surrounding site will be renovated into a welcoming and accessible space of great international appeal in the near future, though currently remains open to offer a variety of forthcoming events and performances.
The King's Lynn Town Guides also take visitors into the Guildhall of St George during some of their historic walks.
