The tower is referred to as ‘Saxo-Norman’ (design being Saxon but built after the Norman conquest), with a much later octagonal top storey.
St Mary’s church was regarded by Pevsner as the best “decorated” church in East Anglia. Certainly, the stained-glasss windows alone are spectacular let alone the Medieval pulpit and eagle lectern.
