Get ready for a tree-mendous Christmas in west Norfolk this year! Now is the perfect time to combine a festive break with a visit to the pantomime, a spot of gift shopping, trip to meet Santa Claus, and so much more!

Here’s our rundown of some of the best things to do this Christmas season!


Surprise your little ones with a day they won’t forget this Christmas. Plan a festive visit to meet Santa Claus himself at Dobbies and Holkham Hall this year. His elves have been working hard (and deserve a round of santa-plause!) for creating wonderful spaces for all the family to enjoy. Visit Father and Mother Christmas, take part in a magical treasure hunt and receive a small gift to pop under your Christmas tree at Holkham Hall. Walk through a magical outdoor woodland, meet Santa Claus and enjoy a Santa’s Breakfast at Dobbies. For children with additional needs, Dobbies have worked with the charity Autism Together and have created a Quiet Grotto.


This year, get creative and come along to one of our Christmas craft events. Step up your crafting skills whilst adding a touch of homemade charm to your Christmas. Learn the traditional ancient art of willow weaving using all natural materials this season. Create a Reindeer Willow Sculpture, Willow Door Wreath and unique Christmas Star at Norfolk Creative Arts. At Holkham Hall, deck your halls in a sustainable way and create environmentally-friendly decorations at their Willow Weaving Workshop. Don’t forget to book a slot at one of their Eco Wreath Making, Silk Scarf Printing and Sparkle Silversmithing workshops. At Holkham’s Cut, Stick and be Merry! Kids Craft Workshop, little ones are given the opportunity to make special gifts or create unique decorations to adorn your home this season.


Wrap up warm, sample delicious festive food and shop for unique and interesting gifts at one of west Norfolk’s Christmas markets this season. Treat yo’ elf or a loved one at Sandringham’s Christmas Craft, Food and Gift Fair this November. Browse a range of homemade crafts and food from local producers at Bawsey Christmas Fayre and King’s Lynn Christmas Market. Shop beautiful and unusual handicrafts at Hunstanton Christmas Gift Fair or pick up the perfect gift and Christmas tree at the Christmas Fair and Christmas Tree Sale in North Wootton. Support local makers and artists, purchase magical decorations and enjoy a glass of mulled wine at one of Holkham Hall’s Late Night Shopping and Book Signings evenings and Christmas Food, Gift and Drink Market. Don’t miss out on their Buy Christmas Trees event. The permanent shops at Dalegate Market will be open every day selling a wonderful selection of presents and all the food and drink you need this festive season. Creake Abbey will be hosting over seventy stall holders at their annual Christmas Gift Fair in November. In December, visit Creake Abbey’s Farmers’ Market and support local farmers and producers while stocking up for a fantastic celebration at home.


Oh yes, it is! Oh no it isn’t! Pantomime is a traditional British Christmas treat that is fun for all the family. Join us at King’s Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange for a rip-roaring, funny and entertaining performance of Beauty and the Beast this December. Expect dazzling scenery, colourful costumes and hilarious comedy at The Princess Theatre’s Christmas pantomime, Aladdin. Sing along to all your favourite Christmas songs and listen to the wonderful story of an Irish magical Christmas at King’s Lynn Corn Exchange’s Fairytale of New York show and visit Holkham Hall for some seasonal sparkle at the Diva Opera – We Need a Little Christmas experience. Don’t miss A Midwinter Night’s Dream at Westacre Theatre this December, a wonderful show adapted from one of Shakespeare’s best loved stories.


Make the most of the dark winter nights and take a stroll through Luminate Sandringham’s enchanting light trail this festive season. In Her Majesty’s private estate, expect spectacular scenes full of wonder and intrigue to delight and enthral your senses. Celebrate Christmas with Holkham Hall and tour the stately home by candlelight. Why not treat yourself to a cheeky tipple in the Marble Hall dressed for Christmas at Holkham Hall’s Champagne Candlelight evening. In December, enjoy a special evening with Lady Glenconner to celebrate her recently released novel, A Haunting in Holkham. Later in the month, visit the Lady Elizabeth Wing of Holkham Hall to hear David Whitely in conversation with Lady Glenconner who will be sharing insights about her life. Why not get into the Christmas spirit at Downham Market’s Christmas lights switch-on and late night shopping events.


Tis’ the season to be jolly! St Mary’s Church of Old Hunstanton is celebrating flowers with an Advent and Christmas Wreath Festival this December. Local businesses, individuals and organisations are getting creative, and the church will be full of good cheer for all the family to enjoy. Yule be sorry to miss it!


Get your canine companions into the festive spirit this season. Take your dog down to Dobbies’ Santa Paws event for the chance to meet Santa Claus himself, along with the whole family. Holkham Hall are hosting a short service full of carols, readings, poetry and prayer at their Canine (and other animals!) Carol Service this December.


Holkham Hall have an exciting programme full of nature walks and trailer tours this December. Join the Reserve Guide on a Winter Residents of National Nature Reserve walk and witness how visiting wildfowl spend the colder months of the year at this avian wonderland. Hop on board and take a ride around Holkham Park with a wildlife expert on the Inhabitants of Holkham Park Tractor Trailor Tour.
