Take a tranquil walk along King's Lynn's waterfront…

King’s Lynn is justly proud of being recognised as a ‘Festival Town’ – whatever the season, King’s Lynn is worth discovering.

Taking place in the heart of this historic town, an impressive range of festivals feature a fine selection of music, performance, poetry and literary events appealing to enthusiastic audiences throughout the year.

Visitors to the town in mid-July can enjoy the King’s Lynn Festival of Music and the Arts. Every year, visitors and locals alike enjoy theatre, comedy, the visual arts and choral and orchestral concerts (often held in the town’s churches).

Big names who have delighted audiences in recent years include Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Lesley Garrett, flautist James Galway, historians David Starkey and Michael Wood, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and numerous national and international orchestras. Throughout the year King’s Lynn Festival also presents a series of lectures in association with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) and a ‘Three Seasons’ series of concerts and recitals featuring chamber orchestras, distinguished soloists and rising stars from the classical music world.

A further highlight – which normally takes place in early July – Festival Too provides a lively selection of free entertainment sponsored by West Norfolk’s own businesses. This Festival traditionally begins with a spectacular firework display, which heralds three weekends of exciting entertainment featuring pop and rock stars, top-rate tribute bands and the best of local talent.

Huge crowds have packed the Tuesday Market Place in recent times to welcome The Human League, Suzi Quatro, Atomic Kitten, Toyah Wilcox, the Stranglers, Lemar and Sophie Ellis Bextor. In addition, a variety of daytime street entertainment in the town centre provides fun for all the family. Still one of Europe’s largest FREE festivals.

The town also hosts the annual King’s Lynn Poetry Festival and the King’s Lynn Fiction Festival. These Literature Festivals are held during a single weekend in March (Fiction) and September (Poetry) each year. The organiser’s guiding principle is to present some of the best contemporary writers in a congenial and informal setting.

You will see writers of international repute alongside new writers, from all age ranges and from locations across the world. Meet the authors, hear them reading and buy their books

There are lots of other events in the town centre; check out the West Norfolk events calendar for forthcoming events happening all over West Norfolk.
