To the south of King’s Lynn, the mysterious and magical Fens provide a sheer sense of space, vast skies, wildlife and total tranquillity which are not to be missed.

For many visitors, the West Norfolk countryside offers a great opportunity to spend a few days exploring by foot or by bike or enjoying other great opportunities for activities such as golf, fishing or horse riding. The special environment of West Norfolk provides some of the finest nature reserves and outstanding opportunities for bird watching. From famous reserves along the coast and around the Wash to the special habitats of the Fens and the neighbouring Brecks, there are great opportunities for all to enjoy and discover our natural habitats.

Dating back to Saxon times, Downham Market is a gateway to both West Norfolk and the Fens and is one of the oldest towns in Norfolk. The town retains a really intimate feel, characterised by many fine buildings, a bustling market on Fridays and Saturdays and a host of local independent shops, friendly cafes and pubs.

West Norfolk boasts over 100 villages, where some fine local pubs, quality restaurants and fascinating individual shops will tempt you to linger for a while and slow down to the pace of rural life.
